If you're ever lonely, if you are alone stay that way

Winner-Pet Shop Boys

For most other bands, this would be a decent song.  For the Pet Shop Boys, not so much.  Its the first single off of "Elysium"...boy, is it a clunker.  It sounds like it was either recorded for the closing ceremony of London 2012 or for Gay Pride London 2012.  Like I said, its not horrible...it just dunno, lyrically...this is not a good first single

A Certain "Je Ne Sais Quoi"-Pet Shop Boys

As usual with PSB, the b-side is worth the purchase.  Definitely more of a going out song...this would sound great early in the evening at a gay club.

Invisible-Pet Shop Boys

English treasure.  Probably still an underrated band, despite so many hits.  And the best chronicler of gay life of the last 30 years.

After being for so many years
the life and soul of the party
it's weird
I'm invisible
Whatever I
have said or done
doesn't matter in this chatter
and hum
I'm invisible

Kinda brilliant, no?

Piles Of $$$-Caged Animals

Don't know jack about this band.  Not sure if all their other songs suck.  Don't care.  This is this brilliant gloopy fucked-up 80's Zapp/Frank Ocean/Prince r&b that i love.  Prepare to listen to it oooohhhhh about a million times.  The whole "no one calls me by name/I'm gonna rock with you tonight" slays me

Work It-Eli Escobar

Proving once again that in most dance music, less is more.  Sounds like late 80's/early 90's acid house shit.  A woman moans and then says "yeah baby, that's how it work it....oooh, that's how i work it".  Clubs go nuts to this.  One of my tracks of the year for sure (see Caged Animals above).

Beautiful Life-jj

Been going through a jj phase.  What is it about Sweden?  Not only does the country provide the producers and writers for most of the songs on the radio, then they churn out this brilliant pop like a volvo factory.  Was it the whole raised on ABBA thing?  It's gotta be.  This song is a weird is a remarkable mix of melancholy and joy mixed together.  Coulda soundtracked Melancholia, Mr. Von Trier.  Fucking love

Day Four-Bloc Party

Let me first confess that I have a massive crush on Kele Okereke.  The fact that he is gay (or bi) does not help.  So I suppose to pre-love alot of his songs (not true).  Anyways, this song....crazy sad late night beauty...it so reminds me of NYC and walking home late at night after going out (sometimes very late).  I wrote a bunch for my first post in ages...and thought I could write so much more about this song.  Guess i can't

It's Not That I Don't Like Your Cooking

Alright, I'm back.  I know I said that before...er, uh, two years ago.  But this time I am.  I could wax and wane on the changes in music since then, but that seems kinda boring, so I will just jump right in.

U Don't Like Rock N Roll-Hunx & His Punx

It's not that I think you're bad looking
You don't like rock'n roll
It's not that I don't like your cooking
You don't like rock'n roll
I think you got a nice body
You don't like rock'n roll

and so on...and so on...

I'm kinda surprised nobody did this earlier.  Take a snotty-cum-Brooklyn attitude (via the gay bar The Metropolitan), some garage rock, and a huge dash of equal parts 60's girl group/"We Got The Beat" The Go-Go's and you got Hunx & His Punx.  It's a very cool song...fun, great mixtape song.  In fact, everyone of Hunx & his Punx songs are like this.  We'll see about longevity and where they go with it (hopefully they'll change just enough each album to still be fun and fresh).

One of the other things I like about Hunx & His Punx is that their sexuality is both central and at the same time beside the point.  Yeah, it's a boy singing about boys and all that.  But what's cool, in 2012, it seems to be just that.

Eight Arms To Hold You-The Goon Squad

"Found" this on my Ipod...all you really need to know about the song is that it's from the Goonies soundtrack (yes, the Goonies), does not feature Cyndi Lauper and the video features an octopus.  Oh, and its 80's freestyle.  What's more to like?

1.       Seventh Heaven-Pale Sketcher

Love love love.  Know nothing about the band.  Think they are from Austin, Texas.  Its kinda gorgeous and I actually think would be cool to hear in a club as the opening song.  Or last song.  Swirly beautifulness
